Watch Teri Schell’s TEDxCreativeCoast 2010 Presentation
Teri Schell grew up in Birmingham, Alabama, grand-daughter to both a rural strawberry farmer and an urban farmer. Her childhood experiences of helping grow food and of harvesting and selling wild muscadines (at 10 cents a bucket) informs her current work with local food systems. Ms. Schell designs and facilitates community food projects, community art projects and one-to-one educational experiences. Schell is a founding member of the Savannah Local Food Collaborative that organizes the Forsyth Farmers’ Market with the mission of increasing food access and supporting regional farmers.
Schell is also a community liaison member of the Community Consumer Advocacy Board on Homelessness (CCABoH), an organization that provides a voice for the homeless by those who have experienced homelessness. With expertise in advocacy for those experiencing homelessness coupled with a desire to increase food security/food access for those who struggle most with this issue, Schell works in the Savannah, GA area to create partnerships between citizens, farmers, non-profits, and governmental agencies in order to create a vibrant, inclusive food shed.
